The situation
Consistent-quality carpet does not begin at the weaving itself, but at the yarn supply before it: bobbins that must be delivered without interruption and knotted end to end, so the production line never runs out of yarn. One missed knot or a fault in that supply, and the pattern in the carpet is visibly disrupted. Invisible to anyone walking on the carpet, but essential to how good the pattern looks. GILBOS, builder of automated yarn-supply installations (Automated Creeling Solutions) for the carpet industry, knows exactly what is at stake with such a fault.
What does this mean for you?
Does a missed error in your own process also cost time and money only afterwards, instead of immediately? CTRL engineering rewrites control software so that errors are detected and handled almost instantly, without requiring any new hardware.
The challenge
The existing software of GILBOS’ Automated Creeling Solution, which stores bobbins, automatically supplies yarn and knots thread ends together, was outdated and did not catch errors quickly enough. By the time a problem was noticed, it had already caused production downtime, with all the costs that entails.
Our approach
CTRL engineering rewrote the software with a modern approach that spots and handles errors almost instantly, instead of only after the damage is already done. The new, modular structure also makes it easier to add new functionality in the future, without having to rewrite the entire codebase.
“It's incredible to see how the right expertise can take our machines from great to exceptional.”
The result
Faster error handling, a more flexible architecture, and less downtime on the production floor: a yarn-supply installation that stalls less often, and gets back up and running faster when it does.
